I was a late starter to motorcycling. My father owned a 1976 BMW R90S and while I grew up, having a motorbike in the family was a given. I bought my first bike at the age of 29, also a R90S which my father restored. We rode the length of South Africa a few months later in 2017. From there, I've been collecting and restoring classic BMW's for several years. The journey is made possible and enriching by the great community of riders and mechanics who share the passion for open roads and beautiful machines. Touring is how I experience the world, learn and grow. Its where I am most alone or most social. I try to never ride the same roads twice. I endeavour to support the classic motorbike community so that the tradition of touring, restoring and admiring these beautiful machines continues far in to the future.
Experiencing new adventures, sharing the moment and soaking in the sights and cultures enriches beyond words. Travelling changes you and you are given the opportunity to change others by sharing a greeting, a meal or even just sharing the space together. This is in the highlands of Lesotho, Africa on my 1982 R80G/S with some friendly shepherds.
I've toured many countries on classics putting thousands more miles on already aged machines. From South Africa to the tip of Scotland, Ireland to Lesotho, I am making my way across the world in my own time. This is me with my 1989 R100GS Paris Dakar at the most northern point of Ireland, Malin Head in 2023.
